Introduction
Collectin-11 (CL-11) is a lectin that plays a role in innate immunity, apoptosis, and embryogenesis. Calcium-dependent lectin that binds self and non-self glycoproteins displaying high-mannose oligosaccharides with at least one terminal alpha-1,2-linked mannose epitope. It mainly recognizes the terminal disaccharide of the glycan. It also recognizes a subset of glycans and fucosylated lipopolysaccharides.
N-terminal 10xHis Recombinant plays a role in innate immunity through its ability to bind non-self sugars presented by microorganisms and to activate complement through MAPS1 recruitment. It also plays a role in apoptosis through its ability to independently bind calcium to DNA present on the surface of apoptotic cells and activate complement in response to this binding. Finally, it plays a role in development, probably serving as a guide during the migration of neural crest cells and other cell types during embryogenesis.
